The word “legendary” rolls off the tongue easily and often these days, but in the world of music and nightlife that story is usually told in the past tense. Unless the legend happens to be Susan Morabito. Few names have dominated the dance scene over the course of three decades and remain as relevant, current and celebrated as Morabito.
A new generation is now discovering and raving about the impeccable taste and rare ability to create a cohesive and seamless experience on the dance floor that sets Morabito apart and that earned her the appreciation and respect of dancers and peers alike. Through a new focus on music production and remixing she will take her meticulous standards and craft well into the future and will ensure that the legend continues.
As one of the original influences and inspirations for Masterbeat itself, it’s a dream come true to welcome Morabito back to our home in Los Angeles for our Morning Party at The Mayan.
Brett Henrichsen has always had a passion for dance music. Working by day as a marketing specialist for IBM, he would spend his nights in clubs and lunch breaks in record stores watching and learning from DJ’s and listening to his favorite style of music: high energy, vocal and progressive dance. Frustrated to learn the vast majority of music he was hearing in the clubs wasn’t available to the general public, Brett started the now infamous MASTERbeat CD series in an effort to make the music accessible to the general public.
The CD series quickly grew from a hobby into one of the most successful dance compilation series of all time, evolving into an independent record label, an online music store, and eventually evolving into some of the biggest dance events in the country.
Yet there is still nowhere that Brett’s passion for dance music can be experienced better than one of his DJ sets where he loves nothing more than a marathon all-night set of taking you, the dancer, on a journey. This is life.
